T-shirts with his face on them are everywhere. He briefly broke out a personalized seal for himself, reminiscent of the presidential seal. His supporters greet him with tears of joy, as they would Miley Cyrus or the Pope. Yes, he’s popular. But he isn’t, actually, a rock star or pontiff.
The popular way of wording the security gains in Iraq is to say they are “real, but fragile.” No phrase is more ambiguous (and few more misleading) than saying security gains are real and yet fragile.
I live on the Minnesota side of the Mississippi River, so close to Wisconsin that I could literally almost hit a golf ball to it. As a big Minnesota Vikings fan growing up, there was no more-hated human being in the world than Brett Favre.
