safe bombs!

This week, LiveScience.com reported that Germany has begun to develop “green bombs.” Regular bombs, the article reports, “generate toxic gases upon detonation that pollute the environment.” Let me be the first to say, “Thank you, Germany!”
This is clearly one of the biggest breakthroughs of modern time. After centuries of wars and destruction, I’m glad someone has finally had the sense to say, “Wait, what about the trees?” I mean, the desolation of human life through the use of explosives is important in its own right, but I’ve always been more concerned with what bark is made of.
It’s one thing to be concerned about the environment, but this seems like a step in the wrong direction. Since when is the preservation of the environment more important than preserving human life? Have we already given up on world peace and skipped right through to making sure the bombs are safe for inanimate objects?
This research has been supported by a number of groups, including the U.S. Army. It seems this money could have been better spent on, maybe, stopping war in the first place. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather see a couple flowers die than a couple kids.
But I guess if the money is already being poured into these “green bombs,” why not expand that to all weaponry? I’d really like to make sure when I shoot someone that the bullet doesn’t hurt the tree behind them.
