Not anymore. The media’s strategy of hiding Ron Paul like New York’s homeless problem seems to have worked. The only candidate who had plans to change America is left out-gunned, fighting to retain his congressional seat like someone on the losing end of a West Texas shoot-out.
And before you chime in, yes, liberals, I’ve heard about Obama and “Change We Can Believe In.” But I don’t believe it.
I do not see any change coming from the Democrats in general and Obama in particular. When it comes to dirty politicking, Obama can sling with the best. He sends mailings full of mud (whether or not it is “truthful mud”) to potential voters, accepts donations from large businesses and makes vague promises to the electorate; sounds like business as usual to me.
Besides his plans for socializing healthcare (which many Democrats propose anyways) and ending the war in Iraq (not a tough call), what does he offer that is so revolutionary? Well, I guess he does not take money from PACs and that is a change. It’s definitely a change from when he ran for the Senate and accepted almost $1.5 million from them. The senator also claims he does not accept money from “Washington lobbyists,” which is a good way to phrase it because he has accepted money from state lobbyists.
So other than a facelift to presidential fund-raising methods, what is the real change Americans can expect from Obama in January of 2009? The answer is simple:
He would be the first African-American president of The United States of America.
While that is an accomplishment, if in 2008 the electorate votes for or against someone based solely on skin color, then not much has changed.
So once again our two party system will produce front-runners who will bring little innovation to the political game. And once again, for real change, voters will have to look towards one of the third parties. Too bad Ron Paul won’t be on one of those tickets. Too bad that a country hungry for change is about to be fed more of the same.
