if you really love a country, let it go

Desperate times call for desperate measures. The Clinton campaign knows this. That is why they have decided to release a photo of Barack Obama in a turban. The idea being if she can just make the country think twice about Obama for any reason, she might be able to squeak by in Texas and Ohio.
I think I know how Hillary Clinton is feeling. She loves this country, and she feels like she is the best candidate for it. She believes that whether this country realizes it or not, it needs her. Now, suddenly this upstart Senator with the fancy speeches and the pretty smile has come along and swept the country off its feet.
The thing is, America is like a woman. If you want to lead this country, it’s not enough that you love it, but it has to love you back. You can try and be the best candidate for America, but ultimately you can’t make her want you. Just like men, politicians are willing to do just about anything to get elected. Lie, defame, fight… in fact, I’m kind of surprised more fist fights haven’t broken out; although, I think the governorship of Texas has been solved by arm wrestling more than once.
That can be understandable sometimes if you see the country falling for someone like George Bush. If I knew a woman was falling for a guy who’s constantly starting fights, trying to tell her what she can and cannot do with her own body and listening in on her phone calls, I’d probably take some extreme measures too.
What happens, though, when the person the country is gravitating toward is someone who you are “honored” to be competing with, someone who you consider to be a “friend?” It’s one thing to try and point out some obvious differences and make your best case for why you’re better, but the same rules for competing with an enemy don’t apply when you are competing against someone you supposedly respect. Releasing a picture of your opponent dressed like Osama Bin Laden breaks those rules.
Unfortunately, I’ve got more experience than I want with friends and women, and I can tell you this tactic never works out well for any body. It won’t make America like Hillary more, only Obama less, and even if it does work it creates a divide amongst friends or, in this case, a political party. Even if she does win the primary somehow, it’ll only be to find out that half the democratic party is now sleeping with Ralph Nader.
You can tell a lot about the character of a person in a situation like this. It’s hard to let go of your dreams when you believe they’re so close. But if you really love America you would want her to be happy with the candidate she’s chosen. Even if it makes your stomach turn, having to let go of your dream.
It’s funny because you’d think with all of Hillary’s problems dealing with her own love life she would have figured this out by now. Then again, all’s fair in Love and War, and apparently for Hillary, Politics too.
