Comments (11)theREBUTTAL has been going through reorganization over the past weeks and will continue to do so, but as a result, publishing will be put on hold. *crowd boos* If you would like to receive notice when it resumes, leave a comment and we will happily send you an email at that time. And maybe a stuffed monkey. But probably just an email…
Comments (7)A self-fulfilling prophecy is hard to break out of. Once a potential future reality cements itself as overwhelmingly likely in the public’s mind, bucking this reality is a difficult task. With little more than two weeks until the election, McCain finds himself in the grips of such an expected outcome.
Comments (2)Predicting one day, let alone 30, in the universe of politics is a fool’s errand. Political junkies, though, are such fools. What follows is one observer’s view of what to look for between now and November 4th.
(3)Unforeseen circumstances will occur, adjustments will be made, concessions will occur. A litany of recalculation, advice, and global reaction will usher an inevitable change of policy. And people will be incredulous at the emergence of the lie.
(7)I hope the sermon on Sunday by Pastor Jody Hice on Saint McCain’s second coming was a good one because the second Pastor Hice and his cohorts endorsed John McCain, they broke federal tax law and lost their eligibility for tax exemption.
(11)The Bush Administration is spending phantom dollars in order to get short-term gains. It is the mortgage crisis on a gargantuan scale. It is the largest act of hypocritical scolding ever witnessed by the American people.

The whole proposal to rename the bailout a “rescue” is actually preposterous, and a cheap, depressing effort to use language as a tool to rebrand government intervention as a noble cause. It’s just putting lipstick on a pig. There, I said it.

75 percent of the homes in Galveston, Texas are unihabitable, but McCain has chosen to invite himself to the white collar bailout planning committee instead, pleading for brownie points in the thick of a presidential race like a pleasure-happy hamster tapping for food pellets of approval.

You’ve probably noticed Sarah Palin’s face plastered on the cover of every magazine in the checkout aisle. She’s a cover girl for Time, Newsweek (for two weeks in a row),The National Enquirer and countless others. As Mo Rocco points out, Sarah Palin’s a tabloid star.

We allow the parties to co-opt us and make us vote against our nation’s interests. If you are a professor in Boston, you better be a Democrat. A salesman in Summerville, South Carolina? You’d better not betray the sticker on your truck and the voice on your favorite radio station.

Like many Americans, I am dissatisfied with our elected leaders. They are more concerned with their next election than with actually doing the business of the people. I propose a solution this November: vote against the incumbents.

Lowering the drinking age hasn’t put an end to drinking. Like the years of prohibition in the 1920’s, all we’ve done is caused young people to go to extreme measures - hiding out in crowded neighborhood basements or corn fields in the middle of nowhere to get drunk.
